Once upon a time, there was a girl named Goldilocks. Goldilocks loved walking in the woods. But sometimes she was not kind to the animals who lived there.

She chased the birds and mice.
She splashed the turtles and fish.
She hid the squirrels' acorns.

One day Goldilocks was in the woods when she spotted a house. Goldilocks did not know that the house belonged to three bears. She opened the door and went inside.
On the table were three bowls of porridge.

"I'm hungry," Goldilocks thought.
She tasted the porridge in the biggest bowl. "Too hot!"
Next she tried the porridge in the medium bowl. "Too cold!"
Then she tasted the porridge in the littlest bowl. "Just right!"

After eating, Goldilocks went into the living room.
"I'll take a rest," she thought.
She sat in the biggest chair. "This chair is too hard!"
She tried the next chair. "Too soft!"
The smallest chair looked just right. But when Goldilocks sat in it—crash! The chair broke!

Goldilocks sighed. "I'll just look for a bed," she thought.
Upstairs, Goldilocks found three beds. The first one was too high. The second one was too low. The third one was . . .
"Just right!" Goldilocks said happily.
She climbed into the bed and pulled up the covers. Soon she was fast asleep.

The three bears were on their way home from the stream.
"That was a nice morning walk," Mama Bear said. "Now it's time for breakfast."
Papa Bear rubbed his belly. "I'm hungry."
"Me too," Baby Bear said. "I love porridge."

But when they arrived home, Mama gasped. "Someone tasted my porridge!"
Papa growled. "Someone tasted my porridge too!"
"Well, someone tasted my porridge—and ate it all up!" Baby said.

Mama pointed to their chairs. "Someone sat in our chairs!"
"Look!" Baby sniffed. "My chair is broken!"
The three bears hurried upstairs.

"Somebody was sleeping in my bed!" Papa said.
"Somebody was sleeping in my bed!" Mama said.
"Somebody is sleeping in my bed!" Baby cried. "Ahh!"

Baby Bear's scream woke up Goldilocks.
"Oh no!" she cried. "Bears!"
Goldilocks hopped out of bed and raced downstairs. She ran through the woods as fast as she could. At last she was home.

After that, Goldilocks still loved walking in the woods. But now she was always kind to the animals!
