Meet the Animals 70: Albatross
Hello there!
Who are you?
I am an albatross.
Albatrosses are seabirds.
Your wings are so long!
We have the biggest wingspan of any bird.
My wingspan is over three meters.
Where do you live?
We mostly live in the Southern Hemisphere.
We fly all over the ocean.
We can fly long and far.
Really? Do you ever go on land?
Sometimes.
We go on land to see our mates.
Parents also feed their chicks on land.
How long can you fly?
We can travel for years and years.
We glide on the winds like this. Whee!
Why don't you flap your wings?
Our wings are very heavy.
So we don't flap them much.
We save energy when we glide.
What do you eat?
We mainly eat squid and fish.
We can smell food twenty kilometers away.
When we smell food, we dive down.
Oh! I smell a snack.
Time for a dive!
Good-bye, Albatross.
