It was Tom's birthday.
"Happy Birthday!" Mrs. Twitchit said.
She gave Tom a gift.
Tom opened his gift.
"A new ball!"
The ball was bright yellow.
"Let's go play catch," Mittens said.
"Fun!" Tom said.
"You can go outside," Mrs. Twitchit said.
"But don't go far.
Tom's party is at three o'clock."
The kittens went outside.
They played catch with the ball.
"Throw the ball to me!" Moppet said.
She held up her paws.
She jumped up and down.
Tom threw the ball.
Moppet missed.
The ball landed behind a big bush.
Moppet looked at Mittens.
"Can you get the ball?"
"No!" Mittens said.
"You're the one who missed it!"
Moppet put her paws on her hips.
"Tom is the one who threw it!
Tom, go get the ball!"
The kittens fought for a while.
Finally Tom went to get the ball.
He peeked behind the bush.
Tom gasped. "My ball is gone!"
