Rocket Girl, Rocket Girl vs. Big Bessie 1: A Really Hot Day!
It was a busy day in downtown Metro City. People hurried along the sidewalk. Cars and buses filled West Street.
Rumble! Rumble! Suddenly the ground shook.
     "Earthquake!" a woman shouted.
A large shadow fell over the street. Everyone looked up.
A man gulped. "W-what is that?"
Jack had a new Frisbee. Roxy and her friends were playing with it in Mara's backyard.
"Hey, Mara, catch!" yelled Jack. He threw the Frisbee.
Mara ran fast to catch it. "Got it!"
"Throw it over here!" called Terrell.
Terrell caught the Frisbee and then threw it to Roxy. She caught it and then threw it to Jack.
Jack fanned himself with the Frisbee.
"It's so hot today," he said. "I wish we could go swimming."
"I asked my mom to take us to the city pool," said Mara. "But she has too much work to do today."
"It's too bad we can't go to the new water park," said Terrell. "It's got water slides and a really cool wave machine. That's even better than a pool!"
Mara shrugged. "We can't do anything about the heat," she said. "So let's just keep playing Frisbee. Here, Roxy, catch!"
Roxy caught the Frisbee. Then she flung it toward Terrell.
"Oops! Sorry about that, Terrell!" she called. "That was a bad throw."
Terrell chased after the Frisbee. But he couldn't grab it before it sailed over the fence. It dropped into a neighbor's backyard.
     "My new Frisbee!" said Jack.
"I'll get it," said Terrell. He climbed over the fence. He was back a few minutes later, carrying the Frisbee. Sweat dripped down his forehead.
"Now I'm really hot," he complained. "I wish Rocket Girl was here. She could probably make it rain or even snow, to cool us off."
Roxy grinned. "Yeah, Rocket Girl could definitely do that."
"You think so?" Terrell looked hopeful.
"Nope," said Roxy. "Rocket Girl is powerful, but she can't change the weather. Besides, she has more important things to do."
"You're right, Roxy." Terrell frowned and tossed the Frisbee to Jack.
Just then Roxy's watch beeped. "I'll be right back," she said.
Roxy hurried into Mara's house. She flipped open her watch. Mayor Bloom's face appeared. He looked very worried.
"Mayor Bloom," said Roxy. "What's wrong?"
"We need your help, Rocket Girl," said the mayor. "A giant monster is destroying Metro City!"
"Don't worry, Mayor," said Roxy. "I'm on my way!"
