It was a bright Saturday morning in downtown Metro City. Detective Smith was on his way to work. He had almost reached Police Headquarters when a dark shadow spilled over the plaza.
Detective Smith looked up. "What is that?" he cried.
A tall, silver robot sprayed a strange blue mist into the air. A blue bubble formed and slowly began to surround Police Headquarters.
"Here comes a car!" Mara called to her friends. The car pulled into the parking lot. She waved to the car's driver. Then she pointed to a sign. The sign said Car Wash.
"Hi," said the driver. "How much for a car wash?"
"Ten dollars," said Mara. "Our soccer team is raising money for new uniforms."
Terrell and Jack ran over with a bucket of soapy water. Roxy carried some big sponges. Everyone started scrubbing the car.
"This is only the third car we've washed today," said Terrell, frowning.
"I know," said Jack. "I hope more cars come. Otherwise we won't make enough money for new uniforms."
"And our old ones are so ugly," said Mara.
Roxy plunked her sponge into the water. She spread bubbles on the hood of the car. Soon the hood sparkled in the sunlight.
Terrell looked thoughtful. "Maybe Rocket Girl can help us get new uniforms," he said.
"We should ask her!" said Jack.
"That's ridiculous," said Roxy. "Rocket Girl can't help us get new soccer uniforms."
"Why not?" asked Terrell.
"Because," said Roxy, thinking. "She doesn't know how to sew. Besides, Rocket Girl has more important things to do."
Just then Roxy's watch beeped.
"I'll be back in a second," she told her friends. Roxy walked to the other side of the parking lot. She pressed a button on her watch.
"What's up, Mayor Bloom?" she asked.
Mayor Bloom looked worried. "We have a big problem, Rocket Girl," he said. "I think somebody stole Police Headquarters."
"What?" asked Roxy. She thought she had heard the mayor wrong. "You think somebody stole something from Police Headquarters?"
"No!" cried Mayor Bloom. "I think somebody stole Police Headquarters! The whole building is gone! Wait a minute . . . Is . . . is that a robot? Oh no! Rocket Girl, I—"
The screen faded as Roxy's watch clicked off.
"Mayor Bloom?" Roxy said. "Mayor Bloom, are you there?"
There was no answer.
"Uh-oh!" Roxy gulped.
