South Street School, Helping a Friend 2: Where's Jim?
Mark: Poor Jim. That tree smashed his house!
Woman: It happened during the windstorm.
Coby: I hope everybody is okay.
Mark: Me too.
Daisy: Did you see Jim's house?
Maya: Yes. It got crushed!
Kara: I heard his whole house is ruined.
Mark: Miss Gray, is Jim coming to school today?
Miss Gray: Please put away your things and come to the rug.
     Then we'll talk about Jim.
Coby: Do you know if Jim is okay?
Mark: We went to his house yesterday. But nobody was there.
Miss Gray: Jim and his family are fine.
Class: Whew!
Miss Gray: They're lucky. No one was hurt.
But it will take time to fix their house.
Mark: Where's Jim now?
Miss Gray: He's staying with his grandmother.
Mark: When will he be back?
Miss Gray: She lives far away.
So he probably won't be back until next week.
The rain ruined a lot of his family's things.
Jenna: His books?
Mark: His video games?
Maya: His clothes?
Miss Gray: Everything. Later we can make some cards for Jim.
That way he'll know we're thinking about him.
Class: Okay. Good idea!
Mark: Mom, I feel sad about Jim.
His house won't be fixed for a long time.
Mrs. Conlan: Yes. And they lost a lot of things.
His family will need help from their friends.
Mark: I'm Jim's friend. Maybe I can help!
