"This is such a lovely day." A woman was with her neighbors. They were having a party on the roof of their apartment building.
A man smiled. "I'm glad we got rid of that smelly hawk's nest."
Another neighbor grinned. "Our building is much nicer now."
Kee, kee! A winged figure swooped down from the sky.
"Ahh!" The woman screamed.
"Cool!" Jack said. "Vultures!"
Roxy and her friends were at the Metro City Raptor Center. The center had lots of raptors in large cages.
A woman walked over. She wore a name tag that read Robin.
"Those are turkey vultures," Robin said. "Vultures are a type of raptor. Raptors are birds that hunt other animals."
"Why are they here?" Mara asked.
"Those vultures got injured," Robin said. "We helped them get better. Soon we'll release them back into the wild."
Robin led everyone to another large cage. "This is Perry. He’s a peregrine falcon. Perry's wing is broken. We think he got hit by a car."
"That's awful," Jack said.
"The person driving the car didn't even stop." Robin's eyes flashed with anger. "People need to be nicer to birds, especially raptors. Raptors are great hunters with amazing eyesight. Vultures even help the environment by cleaning up dead animals."
"There's a bird's nest outside my window," Terrell said. "I love looking at the baby birds."
"Well, some people don't like nests!" Robin looked very angry now. "There was a beautiful hawk's nest on an apartment building near Metro City Park. The building's horrible residents had the nest removed!"
"That stinks," Jack said.
Suddenly Robin looked up. A large bird was flying overhead. "I'll be right back." Robin hurried away.
"That was strange," Mara said.
Jack shrugged.
"It's sad that the hawk's nest was removed," Roxy said. "I love hawks."
"Me too," Jack said. "Why didn't anyone stop those people from removing it?"
"Rocket Girl could have stopped them," Terrell said.
Mara rolled her eyes. "I'm sure Rocket Girl has more important things to do, Terrell."
Roxy and Terrell looked at each other and grinned.
Roxy's watch beeped. She stepped away from her friends. "Mayor Bloom? Is something wrong?"
"Rocket Girl, I need your help." The mayor looked annoyed. "Workers are trying to cut down some trees in Metro City Park. They were just attacked. All their equipment was destroyed."
"Don't worry, Mayor," Roxy said. "I'm on my way!"
