My First Readers 3, Clown School
Everyone in Ed's family is a clown.
Ed's grandfather is a clown.
Ed's father is a clown.
Ed's mother is a clown.
Ed wants to be a clown too.
Now Ed is seven years old.
He is going to clown school.
"Ed, here's your school uniform," says his mother.
Ed looks at his uniform. He is very surprised.
The coat is too long. The pants are too short.
The shoes are too big. The hat is too small.
"Mom! My uniform doesn't fit," Ed says.
Ed's mother looks at the clothes.
"Everything is perfect. Let me help you," she says and smiles.
"There you are, dear." She paints his face.
His mouth is bigger.
"Here is a tear under your eye. Here is a red nose.
Here is a funny hat," says his mother.
Ed looks in the mirror. He is very happy.
"Am I a clown?" he asks.
"No," says his mother. "You just look like a clown!"
Ed walks to clown school with two smiles.
One smile is painted. And one smile is real.
